Dysport injections are a minimally invasive, FDA-approved method for treating facial wrinkles and cervical dystonia (involuntary contractions). Similar to Botox, Dysport is a type A botulinum toxin, a highly refined protein typically used to relax muscles and inhibit sweating. Researchers claim Dysport to be the superior treatment to Botox for reducing the appearance of crow’s feet. It is also an alternative option for patients who have stopped responding to Botox treatments.
How Does Dysport Work?
Dysport is injected into the muscles that control facial expressions and causes them to weaken. This causes the wrinkles on the skin’s surface to smoothen out. Dysport injections are very effective for treating deeper facial wrinkles, especially worry lines between the brows and crow’s feet around the eyes. Results are often seen as early as one day following the treatment and tend to last between 4-6 months.
Is the Procedure Painful?
Dysport injections are not painful, especially if you make sure they are administered by an experienced professional. Some patients do experience minor discomfort, in which case, a topical numbing cream can be applied to the treated area.
How Long Does it Take?
The procedure takes approximately 20 minutes to complete, after which time you can return to normal activity, although we recommend staying out of the sun and refraining from consuming alcohol for 24 hours.
